Six-belted Clearwing

Locally distributed across Warwickshire in grasslands and quarries where the larval foodplant Bird's-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) grows in abundance. The day-flying adult moths are on the wing between June and August. The Six-belted Clearwing is probably our commonest and most widley distributed clearwing moth in Warwickshire. It will often appear in good numbers to a pheromone lure but they have also been recorded by sweep-netting the larval foodplant.

Short grasslands containing Bird's-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus such as those which occur on the bund at the front of Brandon Marsh visitor centre or at our Ryton Wood Meadows Butterfly Reserve provide the best opportunities to see this species.
